Family Portraits

Shooting a family portrait is one of my favorite assignments. I prefer working outdoors for these shoots, and I have some terrific locations to recommend.
Family group shot.
Here, a family of four is photographed in the late afternoon. I keep them comfortable in the shade and use a fill flash to balance their exposure with that of the background.
Brother and sister.
This brother and sister portrait was also photographed in the shade with water and hillside in the background.
Four generation women.
In this "four generations" portrait, I moved indoors using a basic studio lighting setup with a plain background. Since there aren't any distracting background elements, the viewer focuses directly on the subjects.
