Outdoor portraits with bright backgrounds are great, but our camera's exposure meter tends to underexpose the model in favor of the background. Use "fill flash" to balance the subject with the background and to eliminate unsightly facial shadows. Most point and shoot cameras allow you to "force" the flash on by choosing the "lightening bolt" icon.
