Get Closer!

Often, when we set out to take someone's picture, we stand across the room, as if a sudden shyness overcomes us at the decisive moment. The resulting image somehow lacks intimacy. Why? You've heard it before, but believe me, it bears repeating -- Get Closer!

You can "move-in" by increasing the focal length of your lens, using the zooming function. Or as a last resort, you can point your feet in the direction of the subject and walk toward him or her.

To see the difference for yourself, wave the mouse pointer over the picture and compare the two images. I prefer the more intimate image.
